In an introductory section the cause and nature of the corrosion phenomena affecting reinforcement embedded in concrete are discussed, with particular reference to practical aspects of the formation and destruction of the coating which has a passivating effect on the steel. The corrosion behavior of the various types of lightweight concrete is then explained and this behavior is discussed in relation to the internal structure of concrete and aspects of production technology.
