Marine structures are actually made of complex, usually bi- or tri-dimensional resisting systems whose safety cannot be assessed accurately on the basis of the uniaxial strength of concrete. Fracture criteria in terms of variants, valid in the tension-compression domain are proposed. The main aspects of behavior of lightweight concrete under multiaxial states of stress, compared with that of dense concrete, are discussed.
