    Experiments were carried out on 42 moist-cured plain mortar specimens and 156 lightweight mortar (LWM) speciments wherein air was introduced in the fresh mix with the aid of a foaming agent and an increased mixer speed. In contrast with that of the normal-weight mortar, increase in dry density and compressive strength has been observed with the increase in water/cement ratio of the mix. Theoretical expressions for predicting the dry density and an empirical formula for predicting the compressive strength of LWM have been suggested.
