Haydite is a lightweight, cellular, inert, burned-shale material which may be used in fine and coarse sizes in concrete or as the course aggregate only, combining with ordinary sand as the fine aggregate. Tests at the University of Illinois bby F. E. Richart and V. P. Jensen have contributed much to kowledge of the properties and correctr use of this aggregate. Much of the information herein is from their report, published in the Journal of the American Concrete Institute, October 1930.
