  • Abstract:

If the use of concrete by structural engineers had started where the Pantheon, built more than 1500 years ago in Rome left off, it is certainly probably that today the superstructure of all reinforced concrete framed buildings would use lightweight aggregates. If only for the reason that construction costs would be cheaper, as the use of dense natural aggregates requires more massivew foundations to support a considerably heavier superstructure.
