  • Abstract:

Structural lightweight-aggregate concrete has in recent years acquired considerable importance as a building material. It is used in many guises for building and civil engineering construction, with untensioned or prestressed reinforcement, case in situ or precast. Its properties have been investigated at many research centres. They depend principally upon those of the aggregate, and so they have to be reassessed each time a new aggregate is brought into production. Some correspond to the properties of normal concrete, some do not. Consequently, different rules will sometimes have to be observed in construction; in other words, current Standards and Codes of Practice for reinforced, prestressed and precast concrete and so on will need to be amended in certain details.
