Lightweight concrete hollow blocks with improved thermal insulating capacity have increasingly have developed in recent years. In such blocks a relatively thick slab of rigid foam plastic is provided in one row of cavities. In order further to improve insulation the number and thickness of the transverse partitions in the blocks have been substantially reduced. These heat-insulating blocks, so-called “two-leaf blocks”, do not comply with German Standard DIN 18151 “Hollow blocks of lightweight concrete” and therefore require separate official approval by the building authorities. It therefore appeared necessary to make a fundamental study of the shear resistance the loadbearing behavior with regard to shear of storey-height walls constructed of lightweight concrete hollow blocks complying with DIN 18151 under double-eccentric loading in order to have a better basis for assessing the results of approval tests on non-standard two-leaf blocks. In German and English.
