  • Abstract:

Surface properties of commercial autoclaved lightweight concrete (ALC) having 1.1 nm-tobermorite as a major constitutional mineral were investigated. The effective field strength of the ALC surface was determined as 6.6 X 10/SUP/5 e.s.u./cm/SUP/2 from the slope of linear relation between heat of immersion (hi(sl) and dipole moment of immersing media. Effective methods of surface modification for water repellent were found by either autoclaving aat 234°C. under 3.0 MPa or reflux-boiling at 75°C under 101 kPa, using solution of 1-hexadecanol diluted with hexane in each method.
