  • Abstract:

This is a summary report of a series of scientific studies conducted by Management Science Atlanta, Inc., for Vulcan Materials Company. The purpose of these studies was to determine the effect that concrete block weight has on mason productivity. The studies were restricted to include only eight inch by eight inch by sixteen inch concrete blocks in the twenty,twenty-six, twenty-seven, thirty, and thirty-six pound weight classes. The study procedure consisted of (1) conducting comparative time studies of an experienced mason laying different weight concrete blocks on the same job under similar conditions, (2) analyzing the collected data, and (3) documenting the results of the study.
