“Vance Brothers Inc. along with the DOT’s continues to use lightweight aggregate as their best source for Chip Seal projects. The bond and adhesion that we achieve with our CRS-2P asphalt emulsion and the lightweight material is the best design we can apply. As the completion of successful projects the last two to three years followed by severe winters with little or no apparent failures are proof. We have started using the lightweight 1/4″ by 1/8″ material on the DOT shoulders, county roads, city streets, subdivisions, and parking lots at a very high and successful rate. This has helped the high demand for the larger aggregates to be used for the DOT’s and Counties higher A.D.T. projects. Vance Brothers will continue to explore other options for the different sizes of lightweight material.”

Vance Brothers, Inc.
At Buildex, Inc., we work with specifiers and contractors to develop chip seal aggregate gradings that are best for the particular application. From 3/4” coarse gradings for heavily rutted roads down to 1/4” and even 1/8” material for economy on lower volume streets and specialty work like shoulders, we work toward the right grading for the job.
This helps make both Buildex and our contractor customers like Vance Brothers successful, and provides the best economics and quality for the owner. As a result, lightweight aggregate chip seal has become a preferred maintenance solution for pavement throughout the Midwest.
