Stress–Strain Behavior and Bridge Performance of Concrete Containing Expanded Shale, Clay, and Slate Aggregates
Bridge Engineers & Material Specialists: Are your bridge designs maximizing performance?
As infrastructure ages, building with materials that reduce maintenance and extend service life is crucial. Expanded Shale, Clay, and Slate (ESCS) aggregates are changing the game in bridge engineering.
Join me at the upcoming hashtagNCBC Webinar in collaboration with hashtagESCSI to explore how hashtagESCS improves the stress–strain behavior of concrete, mitigates cracking, and enhances the overall durability of bridge decks, girders, and pavements.
📅 Date: Wed, Apr 15, 2026
⏰ Time: 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM PDT (1:00 PM – 2:00 PM ET)
🗣️ Presenter: Fariborz M. Tehrani, PhD, PE, ENV SP, PMP, SAP, F.ASCE
Prof. Dr. Fariborz M. Tehrani is a Full Professor and Director, with nearly four decades of experience spanning academia public agencies, and professional practice. His expertise includes sustainable and resilient structural engineering, mechanics, and materials (SR-SEMM), with a strong emphasis on lightweight aggregate concrete, internally cured concrete, and lifecycle performance of transportation infrastructure. Dr. Tehrani is a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers (hashtagASCE), a voting member of multiple American Concrete Institute (hashtagACI) and ASTM International committees, and a nationally recognized authority on the application of expanded shale, clay, and slate aggregates. He has served in both consulting engineering firms and state transportation agencies, contributing to bridge and pavement projects across diverse climates. He has authored and presented more than 150 scholarly publications, technical reports, and conference papers and has received multiple awards, including the hashtagASCE Region 9 Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award and hashtagASCE Research Awards.
