ICYMI: ESCSI Presents at TRB’s 103rd Annual Meeting

The Transportation Research Board (TRB) 103rd Annual Meeting occurred January 7-11, 2024, in Washington, D.C. This was a busy event for the Expanded Shale, Clay, and Slate Institute (ESCSI), with numerous technical committee meetings, presentations, networking, and exhibiting the latest information and projects concerning ESCS applications.

The events highlighted two presentations by the ESCSI Director, Dr. Fariborz Tehrani. The first presentation hosted as a lectern session by the Standing Committee on Culverts, Buried Bridges and Soil Structure Interaction (AKB70) was titled “Sustainability measures of ESCS backfills for buried structures” and showcased case studies supplemented by environmental, societal, technical, and economic analyses.

The second presentation was titled “Linking life-cycle assessment (LCA) and environmental product declaration (EPD) for jointed reinforced internally cured concrete (ICC) pavements.” This presentation was organized by the Standing Committee on Pavement Preservation (AKT20) and addressed a practical procedure to use LCA and EPD to measure the benefits of ICC for JRCPs.
