Offshore concrete structures such as mobile prestressed concrete caissons require precise weight control during construction because of the limitation of the draft. The error in the total weight of this type of structure is potentially caused by three primary factors, i.e., an error in the weight of reinforcing bars and other steel members embedded in concrete, an error in unit weight of concrete and an error in dimensions of as-built concrete member. The effect of each primary factor on the error in total weight is discussed based on the field test data and the simulation analysis result. Through the discussion, the most significant factor is determined to be the change in the concrete unit weight with time during conveying, waiting, compacting and curing.
