Over a period of time, parts of buildings which are exposed to the action of the atmosphere undergo a certain deterioration which is referred to as weathering. This report deals with weathering, in the form of splitting due to frost, of lightweight aerated concrete exposed to freezing cycles. A detailed description is given of single-cycle tests in which temperatures and deformations were accurately measured in order to determine the critical degree of saturation. The pore distribution in all the tested lightweight aerated concretes was also determined and its influence on the frost resistance is discussed.
