  Prewetted lightweight aggregate used to provide internal curing may become empty during early-age hydration and then function successfully as part of an air void system in the hardened concrete. While not conclusively proven by a detailed study, the empirical evidence provided by the excellent durability of lightweight concrete lends credence to this possibility.
