  • Abstract:

Use in experimental installations of expanded clay lightweight aggregate for septic tank drain fields has led to verification that this material had lasted for as long as 12 years. Even after 12 years, discoloration was the only change in the expanded clay lightweight aggregate. The advantages in Florida of this material are as follows:1. Exceeds minimum specifications.
    2. Lasts indefinitely where other materials do not.
    3. Ease of handling.
    4. Larger payload.
    5. Affords the contractor the confidence of a quality job that will last.
    6. Permits greater percolation due to no consideration.
