The widespread use of ferrocement in the West began only in the last two decades, gaining publicity with the famous ferrocement domes constructed for the Rome Olympics in 1960. In India the use of this material, which has a potential for economy in construction cost, has been very limited. Ease of forming complicated shapes and the lighter weight make ferrocement an attractive alternative to reinforced concrete construction. The paper presents the use of precast ferrocement elements, both as a formwork and after the in-situ concrete pour as an integral structural component of the roofs of a water tank and a building. The use of precase ferrocement units for the drainage system of an industrial structure is also described.
