The viaduct is part of the route extending the Rome subway B line, in the stretch lying between the stations of Ponte Mammolo and Rebibbia. The structure’s purpose is to cross the Aniene river and its present floodplain. It connects the station on the elevated line to the area beyond the Aniene, where the line’s grade profile again goes underground. The clear height below the viaduct runs around 4.50m. Every span used a deck comprising two lightweight box girders poured in situ with precast parapets. These parapets were put up to cut down the noise coming from the trains. On the 44.00m span two box girders 2.35m deep and having widths varying from 1.45m (soffit) to 1.70m (extrados), connected by a continuous 25cm deep deck slab, with 1.80 meter cantilevers. The girder centering is 3.55m, corresponding to the tracks’ spacing. All the viaduct loadbearing structures were in-situ poured. In Italian and English.
