booth during the 2024 Geo-Congress.

The Expanded Shale, Clay, and Slate Institute (ESCSI) participated in the Geo-Congress 2024 Exhibition in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Hosted by the ASCE Geo-Institute February 25-28, 2024, this inspirational event included technical programs engaging keynote speakers and networking opportunities representing professionals from government, industry, and academia.

ESCSI Director and members actively participated in several technical committees discussing retaining systems, pavements, sustainability, and resilience. The ESCSI booth attracted researchers and users of ESCS in geotechnical applications, including structural backfills, roadway embankments, and others.

The booth also premiered a poster show on the recent experimental project highlighting the contributions of ESCS to address corrosion problems for embedded metals in geotechnical backfills. The project, sponsored by California State agencies, revealed the high tolerance of ESCS for sulfate and chloride contents and electrical conductivity measures, between 60 and 150% more than conventional fills.

The published report is available on the Mineta Transportation Institute page.
